DE STIJL VAN...Een broek is nooit zomaar een aan elkaar genaaide lap stof, zeker niet bij beroemdheden. Modejournalist Josine Droogendijk duikt daarom iedere dinsdag in een walk-in closet om een kledingstijl te ontrafelen. Met deze keer: Annechien Steenhuizen.

Het journaal stemt me somber en ik ben daarin vast geen uitzondering. Huilende kinderen, verwoeste huizen, dode soldaten; als ik te vaak naar het nieuws kijk, ben ik meteen verzekerd van een slapeloze nacht. Gelukkig is er een ding dat me wél blij maakt als ik naar het Achtuurjournaal kijk en dat is de verschijning van Annechien Steenhuizen. De brunette is niet alleen gezegend met een knap gezicht en een fantastisch figuur, ze heeft ook nog eens een styliste gevonden die het beste in haar naar boven haalt. Haar elegante kokerrokken, smetteloos witte blouses en strak gesneden jasjes zijn zó clean, zó strak en zó verzorgd, dat ik haar onmiddellijk geloof als ze me zou vertellen dat ze haar hele leven onder controle heeft.
Natuurlijk is de studio van de NOS geen catwalk. Het voorkomen van de nieuwslezeres is altijd ondergeschikt aan het nieuws zelf. Dat beseft Annechien ook, zo vertelde ze onlangs aan Linda.nl. ”Als nieuwslezer ben ik mijn serieuze zelf en ben ik ondergeschikt aan het nieuws. Mijn uiterlijk mag natuurlijk niet afleiden. Ik houd ook van minimalistisch, dus ik draag eigenlijk nooit grote kettingen of andere opvallende sieraden.”
Mix en match
Trouwe kijkers van het journaal krijgen Annechien zo’n 130 keer per jaar te zien. Om al die setjes bij elkaar te kunnen sprokkelen, heeft ze uiteraard een styliste nodig. Zeker omdat ze het liefst een stuk of zes setjes klaar heeft hangen, zodat ze lastminute altijd nog een andere keuze kan maken. Gelukkig kunnen de grote namen van Hilversum altijd rekenen op Hanna Suurland, die ook de kleding van bijvoorbeeld Dionne Stax en Rik van de Westelaken verzorgt. Op haar Instagrampagina vertelt Suurland meer over haar werkzaamheden voor Annechien: ‘Om een vraag te beantwoorden die ik vaak te horen krijg: we hebben niet elke uitzending een compleet nieuwe set. En dat is ook niet nodig. Om toch de afwisseling te houden, zoeken we het in combinaties maken met deels basiskleding en wisselende stukken, mix en match. Eigenlijk niet heel veel anders dan wij allemaal’. Als voorbeeld noemt ze een bordeauxrood pak dat Annechien in de lente droeg met een witte top, in de herfst met een zwarte top en in de winter ton sur ton met een bordeauxrode trui.
Met een minimalistische look is het doorgaans ook niet zo moeilijk om vrij onopvallend kledingstukken te mixen en matchen. Dat is les 1 die we van de nieuwslezeres kunnen leren. Maar er zijn er meer. Voor een look à la Annechien zou ik in de volgende zaken investeren:
Hakken met kussentjes
Net zoals ze in Frankrijk weglopen met de pumps van Christian Louboutin, zo is ‘tout Hilversum’ dol op de ontwerpen van het Amsterdamse label Feraggio. Volgens Annechien zijn de pumps, ondanks een hak van tien centimeter, ‘best comfortabel’. Hoe dat komt? Door de zachte kussentjes op de binnenzool.
Leermoment
Met leer kun je zo de kant op van rock-‘n-roll, maar Annechien weet het materiaal te gebruiken voor een chique businesslook. Hoe ze dat doet? Met strakke, minimalistische kokerrokken.
Suits
Toen de desk nog bestond, konden ze bij het journaal gerust in spijkerbroek presenteren. Geen hond die het zag. Nu de presentatoren van top tot teen in beeld komen en ook door de studio lopen, doet opeens de gehele look ertoe. Voor de heren is dat over het algemeen nog niet zo ingewikkeld, want je trekt een pak aan en je bent klaar. Bij de dames komt er vaak wat meer fantasie bij kijken, maar Annechien heeft inmiddels wel bewezen dat een zakelijk damespak ook een heel goed idee kan zijn.
Kort & pittig
In Hilversum is lang, gekruld haar de norm, maar Annechien gooit het liever over een andere boeg. Haar kapsel valt in de categorie kort en pittig, maar dan wel een geslaagde variant. Handige bijkomstigheid: ze is zo klaar met de verzorging. Of om het met Annechiens eigen woorden te zeggen: ”Ik doe een klodder vet in mijn haar en dat is het.”

The news makes me gloomy, and I'm sure I'm no exception. Crying children, destroyed houses, dead soldiers; if I watch the news too often, I am immediately assured of a sleepless night. Fortunately, one thing that makes me happy when I watch the EIGHT o'clock news is the appearance of Annechien Steenhuizen. The brunette is not only blessed with a pretty face and a fantastic figure, but she has also found a stylist who brings out the best in her. Her elegant pencil skirts, immaculate white shirts, and tight-cut jackets are so clean and well-groomed that I immediately believe her when she tells me that she has her whole life under control.
Of course, the NOS studio is not a catwalk. The appearance of the newsreader is always secondary to the news itself. Annechien is also aware of this, she recently told Linda.nl." As a newsreader I am my serious self and subordinate to the news. Of course, my appearance should not be a distraction. I also like minimalistic, so I never really wear big necklaces or other eye-catching jewelry."
Mix and match
Loyal viewers of the news see Annechien about 130 times a year. To be able to collect all those sets, she obviously needs a stylist. Especially because she prefers to have about six sets ready, so that she can always make another choice at the last minute. Fortunately, the big names of Hilversum can always count on Hanna Suurland, who also takes care of the clothing of, for example, Dionne Stax and Rik van de Westelaken. On her Instagram page, Suurland tells more about her work for Annechien: 'To answer a question that I often hear: we do not have a completely new set every broadcast. And that is not necessary. We look for combinations with partly basic clothing and varying pieces, mix and match to keep the variety. Not much different from all of us, really." For example, she mentions a burgundy suit that Annechien wore in the spring with a white top, in the autumn with a black top, and in the winter' ton-sur-ton' with a burgundy sweater.
With a minimalist look, it is usually not that difficult to mix and match clothing items quite inconspicuously. That's lesson one we can learn from the newsreader. But there are more. For a look à la Annechien, I would invest in the following:
Heels with cushions

There is often more fantasy involved with the ladies, but Annechien has now proven that a business suit can also be an excellent idea.
Short & spicy
Long, curly hair is the norm in Hilversum, but Annechien prefers to take a different route. Her haircut falls into the short and spicy category, but a successful variant. Practical side effect: she's done with the grooming in no time. Or, to put it in Annechien's own words: "I put a bit of gel in my hair, and that's it."
